Alopecia Areata is a common autoimmune skin disease resulting in the
loss of hair on the scalp and elsewhere on the body. It usually starts
with one or more small, round, smooth patches on the scalp and can
progress to total scalp hair loss (alopecia totalis) or complete body hair loss (alopecia universalis).
A designer friend of ours, Jenny has a daughter and this is her story below.
Alopecia areata affects approximately two percent of the population overall, including more than 5 million people in the United States alone. This common skin disease is highly unpredictable and cyclical. Hair can grow back in or fall out again at any time, and the disease course is different for each person.
I’m Jenny from Jenny’s Designz; a lot of you have known me for years.
What you might not know is that my little girl suffers, yes I mean
SUFFERS from ALOPECIA AREATA. She has had it since she was 2 years old.
It started out as a little tiny bald spot that has gotten bigger and
bigger, but she is not totally bald like some of the kids that have it.
Her hair comes out in patches; she takes steroid shots that might stop
her growth rate, and as of right now there is no cure for it.
They say its genetic (not that me or my ex-hubby knows of any one in our family’s ever having it) she is the only one. She is 6 years old now in school you can only image the worry that I go through because kids can be mean. She is very self-conscious about her hair. So I wanted to spread the word to people that may or may not have heard for the condition. The more people that know the better chance we have at finding a cure for it.

About Me
Hello...I am retired..and from Ontario, Canada. I have been married to the love of my life since 1980 and we have two grown children..a daughter (Catherine) and a son (Christopher) both at home still. We also have a spoiled pup named Jenny and two cats that belong to my daughter.
I have been PSPing since the time of the old MSN groups..and had a couple of groups of my own. I discovered digital scrapbooking and am hooked...I started selling my kits in online stores a few years ago.
I enjoy paper scrapbooking as well and meet regularly with a group of ladies for a night of scrapping and fun..I love everything to do with scrapping...just never have enough time..lol lol.
Thanks for stopping by...HUGS Lorraine
